Traditional Chinese medicine has long been used to ease pain, treat disease, boost fertility, and prevent miscarriage.  Now researchers can demonstrate that a combination of the herbal, acupuncture therapies and IVF can be a solution for women who are having trouble conceiving.pregnant-GL

The results, which have been published in the Journal of Integrative Medicine, show a significant increase in fertility when the therapies are administered side-by-side. These traditional remedies include herbal preparations and acupuncture.

Around 65% of the IVF test group were able to conceive, compared with 40% of the control group, who received no herbal or acupuncture therapy. The method is as “close to nature” as possible.

There are several theories as to why Chinese medicine can be beneficial to fertility rates, including the possibility that herbal remedies and acupuncture can improve quality of follicles and uterus lining by enhancing blood flow to uterus, enhance endorphin production and secretion to inhibit the central nervous system and induce calm — all of which can contribute to successful conception.

While the western medicine fertility drugs commonly prescribed for women can produce a 20% to 60% pregnancy rate, they may also cause many side effects such as: mood swings, abdominal tenderness, bloating, fluid retention, weight gain, and nausea.
